CERTIFIED MEDICAL GRADE

Every varietal, on its own terms.

[01] Overview

A mark of certified medical grade — across every honey we supply.

Products formulated with Clinihoney®-supplied honey carry the Clinihoney® Standard mark to confirm the ingredient meets a defined, independently verified specification. The mark assures formulators and caregivers of a level of purity, authenticity and characterised composition that is not guaranteed in undocumented honey on the market.

The Standard is not limited to a single varietal. It applies to every honey we ship — MGO Active, Jelly Bush, Clover, Multifloral and Heather — each characterised against its own bioactive markers rather than judged against another variety's chemistry.

[02] Certification Testing

Independent, ISO/IEC 17025 verified.

Before release, every lot is referred to independent UK and New Zealand laboratories operating to ISO/IEC 17025. Authenticity, bioactive markers and microbial limits are tested for the specific varietal in the lot — never substituted with generic honey assays.

The threshold parameters below apply to every varietal under the Clinihoney® Standard. Varietal-specific bioactive markers are reported in addition, per the section that follows.

[03] Defining honey

Every variety, on its own terms.

All honeys contain some level of hydrogen peroxide activity, generated by the enzyme glucose oxidase. Beyond that, each varietal carries its own signature — MGO Active and Jelly Bush via methylglyoxal formed from DHA in Leptospermum nectar, Clover and Multifloral via peroxide and pollen profile, Heather via thixotropic rheology and high polyphenol content.

We test, report and supply each varietal against the markers that actually characterise it, rather than ranking it against an unrelated chemistry.

[04] The Clinihoney® mark

A defined certification process.

Because the market is full of honey labelled with marketing claims rather than test data, we publish a defined specification, accredited test methods and a per-lot documentation pack. The Clinihoney® mark indicates the ingredient has passed that process — not just that honey is present.

The mark is backed by GMP-aligned process controls and is adjustable upward on request — never downward.

[05] Varietal markers

Each varietal, its own bioactive signature.

In addition to the Standard parameters, each lot is reported against the markers that define its varietal. Where a precursor sustains a marker over shelf life — DHA generating MGO in Leptospermum honeys, for example — the precursor is reported alongside the active marker so stability can be projected.

MGO Active

Leptospermum scoparium · New Zealand

Primary marker
Methylglyoxal (MGO)
Precursor
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA)
Authenticity
Leptosperin + 3-PLA verified

Non-peroxide activity driven by MGO formed from DHA in the nectar of Leptospermum scoparium. DHA is reported alongside MGO so the marker is sustained over shelf life.

Jelly Bush

Leptospermum polygalifolium · Australia

Primary marker
Non-Peroxide Activity (NPA)
Pathway
DHA → MGO
Total activity
Reported per lot

Australian Leptospermum honey with a DHA / MGO chemistry. Reported as NPA with the underlying MGO and DHA values disclosed.

Clover

Trifolium spp. · United Kingdom / EU

Primary marker
Glucose oxidase / H₂O₂ activity
Pollen
Clover-dominant, verified
Profile
Low colour, mild aroma

Peroxide-active honey suited to cosmetic and topical use. Pollen-verified single varietal with consistent colour, viscosity and pH.

Multifloral

Mixed botanical · United Kingdom

Primary marker
Peroxide Total Activity (TA)
Pollen
Multifloral panel verified
Polyphenols
Profile reported

Field-blended honey with a defined botanical panel. Peroxide activity and polyphenol profile reported per lot for formulation work.

Heather

Calluna vulgaris · United Kingdom

Primary marker
Thixotropic gel structure
Enzymes
High diastase activity
Polyphenols
High phenolic content

Distinctive thixotropic rheology and high phenolic load. Specified where viscosity, sensorial character or antioxidant profile is part of the formulation brief.

[06] Process

A proprietary process, controlled from hive to lot release.

Our handling and preparation process is unique to Clinihoney®, developed and refined over close to twenty years to protect the honey's integrity and ensure consistent, repeatable quality. The specifics of the process are proprietary — what matters is the result: every lot arrives documented, characterised and ready for formulation.

[02]

Per-lot characterisation

Every lot is tested against the Clinihoney® Standard and the varietal's own bioactive markers before release.
